Tim & Carolyn Renner

Tim & Carolyn Renner have 25 years of teaching experience. Their technical expertise along with their ability to convey this information to the student helps the student learn quicker and with less frustration creating an enjoyable learning environment and a sense of accomplishment after each lesson.  Tim and Carolyn are not only great on breaking difficult material down but also assisting their students with styling and technique issues introducing dance physics explaining how, as well as why.

The flexibility in their teaching technique allows them to change teaching technique depending on the student. The most appreciated factor regarding Tim and Carolyn’s instruction is there PATIENCE and their attention to each of their students.  This is seen time after time where both instructors will give their students additional  time after their lessons to help define their students goals and devise a way of getting there, not ever imposing their vision onto the student.  In each class the lesson is fun, upbeat and enjoyable.

Tim is also one of the founding members of The Biggest Little Swing Dance Club which provides opportunities to aspiring dancers.

LOOKING FOR A GOOD DANCE INSTRUCTOR

Experience

How long has the teacher been teaching?  How long has he or she been dancing? Find out what dancing certifications, if any, he or she has.  While credentials are important, don’t overlook retired professional dancers. These dancers often become exceptional dance teachers, with no previous certifications.

Qualification

Does the teacher teach different styles of dance?  Some dance teachers conduct classes for several dance genres, such as ballet, tap, modern, hip-hop and jazz. Make sure the teacher is actually qualified to teach the style you prefer, not simply filling up his or her enrollment book.

Dedication

Does the teacher seem truly dedicated to dance? If he/she was a professional dancer, you can probably assume a great deal of pride and dedication for the profession of dance.  Observe the way he or she teaches a class. A dedicated dance teacher will appear to be completely in love with the idea of teaching others how to dance.

Punctuality

Is the dance teacher always running behind? Do Classes continually begin late? A good dance teacher will always strive to be an example of responsibility, as responsibility, is a trait of a good dancer.  If you feel as if you are always standing around waiting for the teacher, it’s probably time to look for a new one.

Respect

Do you feel invisible in your dance class? Every student in a dance class should feel important and respected.  Even if you are dancing in the back row, the teacher should make an effort to make eye contact and communicate with you.  A respectable teacher will pay attention to each student and correct them individually, helping them to gradually build their technique. A good teacher will respect every one of their students.

Dancing is a fantastic activity.  It’s healthy, presents plenty of social opportunity, develops coordination, helps your memory, and is great for couples as well as singles.  For some people, the first time they take a dance class, it can be a little overwhelming.  Being a little shy (in the past), I remember how it felt.  The reason I kept going back?   Simply because everyone looked like they were having so much fun!  I reasoned, if all these people could learn to dance then so could I.  Besides TV is  pretty boring night after night. So I went out and started dancing about four nights a week.  The first time I just watched.  The next time someone asked me to dance (I hadn’t learned how).  After trying to learn on the floor, I decided to start taking classes.  The first two months I was confused (probably because I was trying to learn everything all at once). But I was determined to DANCE!! Then the fun began. Suddenly I realized I was actually doing it, I was dancing! I had met a bunch of new friends and for the first time in my life I was enjoying myself.  Dancing really has changed my life.  So if you’re just starting out, and are just a little shy or intimidated, here’s some helpful hints from me to you.
